Plastic storage lockers come in various shapes, colors, and sizes. They also come in different styles but most of them are now designed to fit on top of each other so as to create a neat pile of your things. Because of their variety, plastic storage lockers can be used to store a wide range of things from small personal effects to large piles of clothes. Large plastic lockers can store your garments, toys, books, sports equipments, and large stacks of papers. Smaller plastic storage lockers are great for food and can greatly organize the contents of your refrigerator, cabinets, and pantry. A single plastic storage locker can do wonders in organizing your things and saving up space. Much smaller plastic storage lockers can be used to contain small amounts of liquids, jewelry, scrapbook items, tiny electronic parts, contact lenses, spices, herbs, home-made lip balm, paper clips, bobby pins, pills, etc.

Tips in choosing plastic storage lockers:

  1. Consider the nature of the items you wish to be placed inside these plastic containers. For liquids, buy airtight plastic lockers. These airtight containers are also great for storage of foods as humidity can spoil them or turn them stale. If you wish to keep moisture out from your contained items, airtight plastic storage lockers are the way to go. For gym clothes and leather bags or shoes, breathable plastic lockers are best. Mildew can grow on your sweat-soaked gym clothes and leather cracks or peels when it cannot breathe.
  2. Choose the thick plastic lockers for heavy-duty purposes. The thicker the plastic, the more durable it is and the more expensive it gets.
  3. The price of plastic storage lockers is proportional to its size so do not purchase a lot of large ones if you only have a few things to put in it.
  4. It pays to watch demos of the plastic locker you are considering to buy in your local department store in order to verify the quality of the product. If it says that the storage locker is spill proof, you have got to see it for yourself in order to get your money’s worth.
  5. If you are fond of using the microwave, it is best to buy only microwaveable plastic lockers for your food. You do not want to stick a plastic locker in your microwave oven thinking that it was safe and then end up with a melted pile of plastic afterwards.
  6. For storage of food, have one locker for each kind of food. Try not to mix them up unless you have thoroughly cleaned the containers and got rid of unwanted odors. Nobody wants to eat blue cheese-smelling pistachios. Properly stored foods have longer shelf life but be thoughtful enough to label the containers with the expiry date of the food you placed in them. If none, indicate when you bought that particular item.

Cleaning and storing your plastic storage lockers:

  1. Clean the plastic lockers with soap and water. Do not use cleaning chemicals especially for those intended to store food. Chemicals can also corrode the plastic material and can be harmful to our health.
  2. Rancid odors from meat and other food products can be taken out with baking soda.
  3. Some stains can never be rubbed out of the plastic so do not get frustrated. They can always be reused or recycled.
  4. Wipe them dry with clean cloth or let them air dry before putting them away.
